The McIlhenny family has made TABASCO® Sauce on Avery Island, Louisiana for over 5 generations. Built on a salt dome, it’s a mysteriously beautiful place where the red peppers grow, the factory hums, and abundant wildlife can be seen in Jungle Gardens. Open daily with tours from 9AM – 4PM.
Rip Van Winkle Gardens
The Joseph Jefferson Mansion, built in 1870 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is a charming Victorian style mansion, with a fourth-story cupola. You can stroll through 15 acres of semi-tropical gardens nestled among 350 year old oak trees. Tours are offered daily from 10AM – 4PM.
A folk life museum that offers an authentic vision of Acadian society in South Louisiana during the 19th century. Period homes of Acadian architecture have been restored to their original appearance and furnished with antiques native to the area. Open 10AM – 4PM (Monday through Saturday).
